Started in the early 70's by John and Kay Southwell who, upon arrival in Victoria, needed some way to provide for their 6 children. They purchased Tillicum Fish and Chips, with its tiny two bedroom living quarters attached and all moved in. Soon customers were lining up for Kay's' homemade Clam Chowder and hand-filleted Halibut pieces battered in her secret recipe.
With wife and kids 'frying up a storm', John was looking for another venture and he bought the "Goldstream Dinette", across the street from Ma Millers Pub at the entrance to the camp site area of Goldstream Park. Pub patrons could order food from the bartender and John would cook it up and deliver it across the street.
One day a friend asked John if he could prepare some meats and salads for his daughters' wedding. As John laid out his buffet two guests wanted to know if they could hire him and Goldstream Catering was born.
Over the years we have moved twice to our current downtown John Street location. Four of John and Kay's' sons and their spouses now provide the same great menus and service they started, even the grandchildren are growing into the business.
